Our Journey & Growth
Years of Teaching Real-World Safety
The founder, Craig Burman, established Close Quarter Street Combat in 1995 in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. He began his journey into personal safety training by starting Boxing at the age of 8. Over the next two decades, he trained in various Martial Arts and Combat Arts, continuously enhancing his skills.
Originally named CBK Street Combat, the school was rebranded in 2003 to Close Quarter Street Combat — a name that accurately reflects the type of Self Defence taught, including Private Lessons tailored to all ages, such as Bully Proof Kids programs.
Throughout the years, Craig continued to train with various Reality Based Self Defence systems and Masters both locally and internationally. CQSC coaches take your personal safety training seriously, recognising that often the aggressor is someone bigger, stronger and angrier, who doesn't fight fair — so neither do we.
CQSC Creed
"Hand of friendship, hand of Combat, come together as one, to train for Peace, Respect and Commitment."
